Post Apocalypse

POST APOCALYPSE
The world ended. It happens sometimes. Whether by nuclear war, environmental upheaval, alien invasion, or any other number of factors, the world as you knew it is gone. But people are resilient and resourceful and always find a way to carry on. Be it by scavenging a ravaged wasteland or rebuilding society in newly formed cities. Just watch out for the mutated monsters or robotic soldiers that are really just out to kill you.

Max | Fury Road (et al) | OTA

[personal profile] crazy_smeg 2019-07-29 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Max had always been a wanderer and a survivor. But these days he was also, sometimes, a shepherd, leading travelers to the reclaimed Citadel and the Council of Wives that ran it, doing a much better job of caring for their people than the Immortan had ever done -or wanted to- and he knew that he had a place there himself, if he wanted it. But he'd never been good at staying in one place, didn't think he ever would be, though sometimes he did stay for a day or two, just to make sure everyone was still well and to check on baby Jo who was growing like a weed and liable to be taller than he was one of these days.

But for the most part he still wandered the dunes and parts beyond, passing along information and news as he found it, and doing what he could to stay out of trouble, though that wasn't always as easy as it seemed.

The grit, heat, and oppressive dryness meant Shmi - and the passenger with her - had sought shelter in shade of a dune. Around their necks were corroded, roughly made metal collars, a few links of chain still hanging from them, a thick, better made lock still in place in the back, and the front with tags hanging - including a pair that matched, that identified the child as her's.

They had mostly been travelling by night for safety, and had used the relative stability of the dune to dig down into the ground to find cooler ground and use the piled dirt and sand as more cover. Shmi wore a veil of rough, burlap type material, and Anakin was laying on a ground cloth of much the same. Underneath him, covered by it, mostly buried in the ground, was a near empty bladder of water. Shmi had the hidden Anakin as best she could, in order to venture a bit in search of someplace to refill their supply.

Mostly for her - Anakin wasn't drinking much water yet. But it means she needs a lot more water than normal. And she's worried.

[Could play in the post-snap years, could be something else has happened, I've always been fond of a Dark Angel style massive EMP wiping everything out and everyone learning to rebuild after that, and with something like that Clint's probably got something similar to his apartment in the Fraction run, that he kind of fell into being the superintendent of because he'd do the best he could by whatever group of survivors he adopted.]

Merlin | Kingsman | OTA

[personal profile] grumpytechwizard 2019-07-29 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Valentine's plan had worked, almost. The satellites had lined up, the tone had sounded, and for five minutes, the world had torn itself apart. Of course, Eggsy had managed to get it together and shut the thing off again at the end, initiating the self-destruct in Valentine's would-have-been new world order.

In the long run, five minutes really wasn't that much time, but it had been enough, more than enough, really, to bring civilization to a crashing halt.

It had been nearly a year since then, and Kingsman had been behind tracking down survivors and getting them to safe locations. The initial 'shelter in place' order for operatives in the field had held for three days before they got communications up and running again, and now they had a pretty good system in place, and Merlin was generally the hub of it all, rarely leaving the tower in what was now Kingsman Compound, though there were occasional survivor convoys that needed his supervision or assistance, but those were few and far between this far in.

Zepar | Fallen Angel OC | OTA

[personal profile] hurtyourealgood 2019-07-29 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Once upon a time, while he'd still been confined to a square mile of canyon, Zepar had held a harem, of sorts. He'd had followers who believed he was some kind of deity, and he'd been fine with letting them.

And then, some decades after he'd been free, the world had ended in fire and flood and plagues. For a while he'd thought that it was only himself and his siblings -those who weren't allowed back into Heaven and wouldn't have wanted to go even if they were- that had survived.

But one day survivors had found him, actual human survivors, and in ones and twos and threes over the year more had arrived and while it wasn't Eden reborn, it was peaceful and they had a garden and an orchard, and while the first few months had been rough, they'd fallen into something of a routine and now a year after the apocalypse, no one in his new square mile of valley, no one went hungry, no one was sick and they had clean water, which was more than most outside the valley could ask for.

[ooc: hopefully this is OK!]

The problem with (helping, a little) stopping an apocalypse is, the second time it came around, no one in Heaven or Hell were keen on letting two rogue elements in on the whole Plan, lest they try to stop it again. They had, of course, tried to stop it--but in the end all that Aziraphale and Crowley could do was save as many as they could.

After the fires had gone out, and the waters receded, the two self-appointed guardians of what remained of London had taken turns spreading their wings and searching. Pockets of survivors had dotted the countryside--humans were incredibly resourceful, stubborn, wonderful beings--and every time he found them, Aziraphale's heart was gladdened.

Of course...then there were the unlucky ones. Far more of the unlucky ones. For the first few months, he'd screamed and howled and cried every time he'd found another lost, so much that he'd been shocked that his wings stayed white, that he could still feel Her love and grace. After that there was nothing for it but to put on a brave face and carry on.

He wasn't quite sure where he was at this point, though he was confident in his ability to get back. A few more days, and he would. But he sensed...something ahead, and on the wing he'd noticed a splotch of green, and he'd wanted to see what it was before turning to home. So, here he stood, at the mouth of a valley, wings folded to his back, watching for a bit to get a feel for the people he could sense inside.

Henry | X-verse OC | OTA

[personal profile] malesiren 2019-07-29 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Things had gone bad. That part wasn't a surprise, really what surprised Henry the most was that it had taken six months before they'd gone really bad, but that was how pandemics worked, he guessed.

Of course, mutants had been blamed first, because when in doubt and all. But also because it seemed like anyone with an X-gene, active or not, was immune, not just to the initial infection, but also to whatever it was that caused reanimation after death in many cases, and the jury was still out on the percentage, but general consensus was that it seemed to be a little less than half. They hadn't actually been immune, they'd just had a much much lower infection rate, and as it turned out, not all humans were fully susceptible to it, either, but by the time those findings came out, the damage had already been done and the CDC quarantine zones were mostly a joke to start with, let alone after months.

Henry's powers had been of use, so at the beginning, when the whole arena had gone into lockdown after a show and before anyone really knew what was going on, he'd been tagged as a friendly and shipped around from quarantine zone to quarantine zone, because he could quell panicked crowds more easily than seasoned negotiators, and those were thin on the ground as it was.

But then, one day about three months in, the power finally died for good and he made a break for it, stole one of the transport vans and made his way west, there were rumors -always rumors- that the coasts were still safe, or had been cleared out, or any number of other hopeful things, and as he didn't have anywhere else to go, he figured west was as good a direction as any.

Eliot Spencer | Leverage | OTA

[personal profile] 90minutesofsleep 2019-07-29 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Eliot had left Parker and Hardison nearly two weeks before. They were safe where they were, and inclined to stay there, which he could respect, but he needed to keep moving, and had left a note that he'd come back through that way eventually, and would catch up with them again when he did.

He'd promised to protect them, and that was exactly what he was doing by leaving them where they were. They were undoubtedly safer without him with the world the way it was. Eliot was dressed for travel, clothes that were durable, comfortable, and kept most of the sun off and helped keep a more-or-less regulated body temperature, all of which were good things on a trek like he was planning to take. He had a backpack full of supplies and a hatchet on his hip, along with a walking stick at hand, it had been a long-handled shovel once upon a time, the handle end still intact and the spade end missing the spade, but sharpened somewhat, both of these were utility as much as weapon, because that was how he did things.

He didn't have a destination in mind, just to walk until he found something interesting, or decided he didn't need to keep moving anymore and went back to where he'd left the other two.

Tobi + Zombie apocalypse OC + OTA

[personal profile] ttlyqualified 2019-07-29 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Tobi hadn't made it to California, or, as she liked to remind herself, she hadn't made it to California yet, as she was fully aware that her entire trip was one long greenhorn shortcut. She'd get there eventually because that was what she'd set out to do and she wasn't going to give up on that plan just yet.

She'd picked up a two-way radio a few months back, and it still had a charge, though mostly that was because she only switched it on for an hour or so every morning, slowly switching through the frequencies to see if she picked up any chatter. On the rare occasions that she did she usually just listened in, rarely made herself known. Past experiences made her wary even though things had sort of begun to settle from how they'd been in the beginning.

Which was what she was doing that morning while simmering her oatmeal over a small campfire, picking mealworms out of the jar of dry oats with one hand to feed to Pinky and alternating stirring the meal mash in the pan and switching through channels on the two-way with the other.

She'd found a good spot to hole up for the night, even a couple of days if she decided to, an abandoned worker bunkhouse above a quarry, she wasn't the first one to use it, but it had clearly been unoccupied for a while, and that was fine with her. She'd barricaded the door at night, and that morning had the bunkhouse and the quarry at her back to prevent anyone's sneaking up on her, and was keeping an eye on the road leading up to the place, empty as most of them were these days.

[zombies is her usual apocalypse go-to, but I'm down for whatever.]

[This is not her first camp. It probably won't be her last. Michonne the mother and wife and lawyer is gone. She's now the katana-wielding enforcer of this group of survivors. While the others rely on guns and hoping to find supplies of ammo in between the waves of Walkers, all she needs is a strong arm and her rage.

Rage isn't that hard to come by when one of the people in the group is rumored to be one of the scientists that stumbled across the disease that causes the dead to rise as Walkers and helped to spread it. An "unfortunate accident" it's been called, but a part of her doesn't believe that. Just his simple presence has kept it so that Michonne and the others are able to really fight against the undead with the sort of ferocity that was nearly lost to humanity in its comforts.

However, right now, they're supposed to be gathering supplies in town to stock up their bunker to the south. And she's pulled guard duty as well. The bag slung on her back is filled with food and medical supplies, but she can't find the scientist and he was her charge for the trip.]
